The City Government of Bacoor, under the leadership of Mayor Strike B. Revilla, has successfully concluded a two-day Capacity Enhancement Seminar and Workshop for Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Officials, which took place on February 8-9, 2024, at Hotel Kimberly in Tagaytay City.
The workshop, organized by the Barangay Affairs Office led by Mr. Elmer Jimenez, in partnership with the Local Youth Development Office (LYDO) and the Barangay Management Information System, was designed to provide SK Chairpersons, Secretaries, and Treasurers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively manage their budgets and comply with government standards.
The seminar featured a lineup of esteemed speakers who shared their expertise on various topics crucial to the governance of youth leaders in their respective barangays. Mr. Josh Christian P. McCarver, a former SK Secretary from Barangay Molino IV, provided insights on the formulation of a Comprehensive Barangay Youth Development Plan (CBYDP). Meanwhile, Ms. Angie Cariaso, the Officer-in-Charge at LYDO, discussed the intricacies of creating an Annual Barangay Youth Investment Program (ABYIP).
The complexities of SK Annual Budgeting were demystified by Ms. Elvinia S. Guerrero, the City Budget Officer, while legalities surrounding procurement and disbursement were thoroughly explained by Atty. Marvie Kate Encardo, the OIC of the City Accounting Office.
Mayor Strike B. Revilla expressed his full support for the initiative, stating, “Our youth leaders play a critical role in shaping the future of our communities. It is our duty to ensure they are well-equipped with the tools necessary for honest, efficient, and competent service. This seminar is a testament to our commitment to empowering our young leaders.”
The seminar was met with positive feedback from the attendees, who appreciated the opportunity to enhance their capabilities and engage with experts in the field. The event underscores the city’s dedication to fostering a culture of good governance and accountability among its youth leaders.
