Located at the Plaza de Padre Mariano Gomes for more than a century, this monument was erected by the people of Bacoor on May 8, 1923 to honor the martyred Padre Mariano Gomes de los Angeles. Held on the 51st year of GOMBURZA’s martyrdom, the Bacooreños commissioned the famous sculptor Ambrosio Garcia to immortalize the image and likeness of the Hero of Bacoor. Championing the rights of Filipino secular priests, Padre Gomes served the people of Bacoor for 48 years. On his second decade as parish priest, he was appointed by Manila Archbishop Jose Segui as Vicar Forane of the province of Cavite. He was best remembered as a road-builder, peacemaker, and catalyst of Bacoor’s salt-making industry.
