Bacoor City, February 19, 2025 – The City Government of Bacoor today welcomed Mayor Hideki Otsuka and members of the Sakuragawa City International Friendship Association from Japan. The visit marked a significant milestone in the growing friendship between the two cities, as the Sakuragawa delegation presented a traditional Mākāibe Stone Lantern as a symbol of their strong bond.
The event, organized by the City Government of Bacoor through the Local Economic and Investment Promotions Office (LEDIPO) headed by Ms. Khei Javier Sanchez, was held at the Strike Multi-purpose Hall. Mayor Strike B. Revilla, Baby Chayeli Cabal Revilla, along with Councilors Adriel Gawaran, Rey Fabian, Obet Advincula, SK President Palm Angel Buncio, Pastor Mike Bautista, Mr. Erick Ugalde, Mr. Udoy Brillantes, Atty. Kim Nyca Lofrangco, the head of City Legal Office, and Engr. Jicky Jutba, the head of the City Engineering Office, warmly welcomed the delegation.
The delegation included Mayor Hideki Otsuka, Mr. Atsushi Ebisawa, Mr. Yutaka Shimojo, Mr. Kazuo Takahashi, Mr. Kiminori Nishikata, Ms. Yukie Ogiwara, Mr. Kazumi Kareno, and Mr. Yuichi Tsukahara. The Mākāibe Stone Lantern, a traditional Japanese craft with techniques passed down through generations from the Edo period to the present day, features delicate and elegant sculptures. The lantern was donated by Sakuragawa City as a symbol of the enduring friendship between Japan and the Philippines.
The delegation personally inspected the site within the Bacoor Government Center where the Mākāibe Stone Lantern will be installed. This donation follows a previous gift of a fire truck from Sakuragawa City, which is now actively used by the Bacoor Fire and Rescue Village.
The visit and donation highlight the strong ties between Bacoor City and Sakuragawa City, demonstrating the importance of international cooperation and cultural exchange. The Mākāibe Stone Lantern will serve as a permanent reminder of the enduring friendship between the two cities.
