The City of Bacoor wishes to inform the Bacooreños of a recent Court of Tax Appeals decision (CTA EB No. 2736, August 15, 2024) regarding Manila Electric Company (“MERALCO”). The Honorable Court ruled that MERALCO’s electric posts, transformers, and related assets are subject to real property tax under the Local Government Code, reinforcing the City’s stance on tax compliance.
The Honorable Court upheld previous rulings from the Central Board of Assessment Appeals and Local Board of Assessment Appeals, confirming that since January 1, 1992, MERALCO cannot claim exemptions from real property tax for its assets. The decision highlights that tax exemptions must be explicitly provided by law, and uncertainties should favor taxation.
In light of this ruling, the City Government of Bacoor urges all taxpayers, both individuals and businesses, to meet their tax obligations promptly. Timely tax payments are essential for supporting the City’s public services and development efforts.
The City Government of Bacoor appreciates the cooperation of Bacooreños in fulfilling their responsibilities, helping to ensure continued growth and the provision of essential services.
