The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has launched the pioneering “1st School-Based Rescuelympics” in Bacoor, an event designed to underscore the importance of emergency preparedness among students. Held today, July 12, 2024, at Perpetual Help College Dalta in Molino, the event brought together 225 elementary and high school students, aiming to impart essential life-saving skills.
Prominent figures graced the occasion, including City Vice Mayor Hon. Rowena B. Mendiola, Mr. Richard Quion of the BDRRMO, Mr. Gary Santos from the Philippine Red Cross Cavite City Chapter, and Ms. Loida Rivera from the Philippine Red Cross Dasmarinas Branch. The esteemed panel of judges featured Mr. Eladio Hernandez Jr., Mr. Jerson Villa, Ms. Melany Anne Corneja, Mr. Rogel Paje, and Mr. Mario Agot, who evaluated the various competitions.
Coinciding with the 36th Disaster Resilience Month, the Rescuelympics provided a dynamic platform for students to enhance their emergency response skills. The event kicked off with preliminary rounds, leading to the finals slated for July 17, with the Philippine Red Cross overseeing the competitions. Students participated in a range of activities, including group chants, an oath of sportsmanship, and relay challenges that tested their proficiency in bandaging techniques and lifting and moving exercises.
Overall, the 1st School-Based Rescuelympics showcased Bacoor’s unwavering commitment to fostering a culture of safety and preparedness among its youth, ensuring that students are well-equipped to respond effectively in emergency situations.
