Manila, February 24, 2025 – The City Government of Bacoor, represented by Mayor Strike B. Revilla and City Administrator Atty. Aimee Torrefrangca-Neri, met with officials from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) today to discuss collaborative efforts in preserving and restoring significant historical landmarks in the city. The meeting, organized by the Bacoor City Department of Tourism & Cultural Affairs (DTCA) led by Mr. Edwin Guinto, was held at the NHCP headquarters in Intramuros.
The meeting was attended by Mayor Strike B. Revilla, City Administrator Atty. Aimee Torrefrangca-Neri, DTCA Head Mr. Edwin Guinto, and DTCA representative Mr. Jose Napoleon Cuenca from the City Government of Bacoor. Representing the NHCP were Chairperson Regalado Trota Jose Jr., Executive Director Hon. Carminda R. Arevalo, Deputy Executive Director for Programs and Projects Mr. Alvin R. Alcid, and other NHCP officials.
The discussion focused on several key areas of collaboration, including the Tulay ng Zapote (Bacoor). The historical significance of the Zapote Bridge was highlighted, but concerns were raised about the bridge’s current location, which is prone to debris accumulation and hinders the flow of the Zapote River. The City Government of Bacoor requested assistance from the NHCP in securing permission to relocate the bridge for preservation purposes.
Another key area of discussion was the Simbahan ng Saint Michael (St. Michael The Archangel Parish – Bacoor). The City Government sought guidance from the NHCP on the procedures for retrofitting, restoration, and site development of the historic church. Discussions also included potential funding sources for these projects.
The City Government also requested assistance in the installation of historical markers for prominent figures in Bacoor’s history. These included A. Edilberto Evangelista, B. Mariano Noriel, and C. Padre Domingo Sevilla Pilapil.
The meeting also addressed the need for restoration and relocation of the Molino Dam marker. The City Government requested assistance in relocating the current marker and investigating the whereabouts of a 2017 marker. Discussions also included the installation of a marker for the Ligas Dam.
The meeting underscored the commitment of both the NHCP and the City Government of Bacoor to preserving and promoting the rich history of the city. This collaboration will ensure the proper preservation and restoration of these important historical landmarks for future generations.
