Bacoor City, February 17, 2025 – The City Government of Bacoor, led by Mayor Strike B. Revilla and Vice Mayor Rowena Bautista Mendiola, today commemorated the 128th anniversary of the Battle of Zapote Bridge, a pivotal moment in the Philippine Revolution, as well as the 128th death anniversary of General Edilberto Evangelista, a key figure in the battle.
The ceremony, organized by the Bacoor City Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the Bacoor PNP, took place at the Battle of Zapote Bridge Monument in Barangay Zapote 2. It was officiated by PLtCol John Paulo Carracedo, Bacoor PNP Chief, and attended by Barangay Zapote 2 officials led by Kap Edwin Torres, as well as City employees and PNP personnel.
The Battle of Zapote Bridge, which occurred on February 17, 1897, saw Filipino Katipuneros triumph over Spanish forces, marking a significant victory in the fight for Philippine independence. General Edilberto Evangelista, a renowned military leader, played a crucial role in the battle, ultimately sacrificing his life for the cause of freedom.
The commemoration served as a powerful reminder of the bravery and patriotism of the BacooreƱos who fought for their country’s liberation. The city’s residents continue to honor the legacy of those who fought and died for their freedom, remembering their sacrifices as a testament to the enduring spirit of the Filipino people. The event served as a reminder of the importance of remembering historical events and honoring those who fought for the freedom that Filipinos enjoy today.
