March 3, 2026 — In a proactive move to strengthen flood control efforts, the City Government of Bacoor, led by Mayor Strike B. Revilla, held a coordination meeting with the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
The primary agenda focused on plans to dredge existing dams and canals across the city and convert them into retarding basins to significantly reduce flooding during heavy rainfall. Mayor Revilla emphasized the importance of close collaboration with NIA to ensure proper oversight, management, and long-term sustainability of these vital infrastructures.
Present during the meeting were NIA officials April Baniel (WRF-O-B), Acting Division Manager Marivic R. Dinglasan, Sr. Engineer Kevin Borreo, and Supervisor Engineer Renz Christopher Timpoc. Representing the city were Mr. Richard Quion (BDRRMO Head), Mr. Raven James Velasco (Engineering Department), Mr. Ephraim Gianan (Legal Department), and Mayor Revilla.
Discussions included the assessment of key water infrastructures such as:
• Sintas na Bato Dam
• Prinza Dam
• Ligas Dam
• Molino Dam
• Mabilat Dam
• Feeder canal behind the Coliseum
• San Miguel Subdivision waterways
• Zapote River
Mayor Revilla requested detailed structural maps from NIA to aid in inspection and strategic planning. He also underscored the city’s readiness to allocate funding for dredging once the official transfer of these facilities from NIA is completed.
With an estimated combined area of 10 hectares and a depth of 7 meters, these structures have the potential to hold approximately 560 million liters of water — a crucial capacity for flood mitigation in Bacoor.
The meeting concluded positively, with both parties committed to expediting the turnover process and strengthening collaborative efforts to enhance flood control systems for the safety, resilience, and progress of Bacoor.
